COLLABORATION BETWEEN EEL-NKUA AND THE FULBRIGHT FOUNDATION: COMPLETION OF A RESEARCH PROJECT ON CITIZEN SCIENCE AND OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING, AND NEW PROSPECTS

With great pleasure and deep appreciation, we announce the successful completion of the research collaboration between the Environmental Education Lab (EEL) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and Ms. Alison Wood, within the framework of her Fulbright Foundation Greece scholarship.

The research project carried out by Ms. Wood, a Science teacher at Duluth High School in the U.S. State of Minnesota, focused on exploring good practices for integrating citizen science into environmental education initiatives and programmes implemented in Greek schools. Her research was hosted by EEL-NKUA under the academic supervision of Professor Maria Daskolia, Director of the Lab.

During the farewell meeting held on Wednesday, 27 May, the key findings of the research were discussed, along with prospects for further expanding this collaboration at a transnational level. One day earlier, Ms. Wood presented the outcomes of her study in an online session, together with a set of recommendations for their future exploitation, including:

• the development of a teacher’s guide on using the Eco-Schools framework to support citizen science projects,

• the dissemination of sample lesson plans, and

• the pilot implementation of collaborative projects between schools in Greece and the United States.
