The Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology was founded in 1984 (FEK 160A), in order to educate secondary school teachers of philological school subjects. Until its segmentation (and its final abolishment in 2019) it provided high quality studies in education, as well as training in Pedagogy for graduates of other Departments of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and other Greek Universities.
The Department of Educational Studies, School of Philosophy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was founded in 2019 (Law 4589/2019), following the segmentation of the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology, succeeding the Sector of Pedagogy.
The Program of the Department of Educational Studies in based on one hand on the academic profile that has historically been shaped in the former Sector of Pedagogy of the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology, and on the other hand on the fields of study of the Academic Staff of the new Department (Law 4589/2019, 16, par. 4 & 9). The academic research of the Faculty Staff is focused on all aspects of educational studies, with a special emphasis on Secondary Education and Lifelong Learning.
