
The Museum of Education is an academic structure in the Department of Educational Studies. It was founded in 2003 (Government Gazette 1164/Issue B/14.08.2003) by the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology and serves educational and research needs. The Museum began to take shape in 1993 following a proposal by Professor Theodoros Papakonstantinou, while its permanent exhibition on the evolution of education in Greece was inaugurated in 2004. Since 2013 it has been running educational programs and activities for schools, families and other audience groups, in parallel with the permanent exhibition. As an academic structure, the Museum carries out research, educational, training and social work in the fields of Museum Education and the History of Education, serving the following missions:
The scientific associates of the Museum consist of the Director, Dimitrios Foteinos, Professor in the Department of Educational Studies, the person in charge of the Museum, Lydia Exarchou, Laboratory Teaching Staff, doctoral and postgraduate students of the Department, as well as an interdisciplinary team (educators, museum educators, theatrologists, authors, visual artists, musicians) collaborating in the design and implementation of educational programs.
The Museum of Education is located on the 5th floor of the School of Philosophy (Office 518).
